- Self comparison and Choices :Reflections from my most recent Ballroom Dance competitionby moyrapodcast on November 29, 2022 at 12:53 pm
I come to you today solo. It's been a while since I turned the mic on myself. I found myself reflecting on the choices that we make and being present to those choices during my last Ballroom dance competition. I feel privileged and blessed to be able to participate in dance as I do. And yet if you have listened to me before or followed me on social , this dance is truly a metaphor for life. I learn so much about myself and how I show up in the world when I challenge myself with dance. I speak today about comparison and how that is the thief for all joy. Signs from the universe as I hear a song that reminds me of my mother. And so much more. Where do you find yourself today? What choices are you making? Are you truly appreciating them ? Brownstein’s journey into spirituality, health, and healing began in 1992 with a profound spiritual awakening that made him begin seeking the truths of all the world’s great wisdom traditions. This sudden shift into a spiritual view of life led Matthew to change his major in college to Philosophy, yet in time it became clear to him that Philosophy was too intellectual and did not offer the direct experiences that he sought for. Changing his major to Religion, Matthew soon discovered Mysticism and the more esoteric branches which led to his increased spiritual experiences. Not knowing what to do with this knowledge, he then went to his first Acupuncture College to learn more about how energy blockages keep us from health, wholeness, and spiritual realization. You will find him and all that offers the world through his site here. You can learn more about meditation and find some samples of meditations on his OnLIne Monastery here. -------------------------------------- If you are ready to journal your way to more joy, check out my journal today. - The Addiction Doctor : Dr. Robb Kelly, from losing everything, his wife, his children, being homeless for13 months to living vibrantly in recovery and helping others thrive in life.by moyrapodcast on September 9, 2022 at 11:00 am
When you hear Dr. Robb you cant help but be lifted up ! Today on the show he shares his story that lead him to losing everything from his business, his wife, his children and being homeless on the streets of Manchester England for over a year . On a cold and wet English night, he fell to my knees and begged God to help him find a way from the endless nightmare that was his existence and moments later a man carrying a bible rounded the corner and offered me a helping hand. His story is remarkable. His level of commitment and compassion to help others who are struggling with addictions is tremendous. He does not mince words. He had me laughing. He had me crying. He challenges us all. And left me knowing that if we can help others have a better tomorrow than today , then we should do it. You can find Dr. Robb Kelly on his site here. - Amy Guerrero, Trauma-Informed Recovery Coach talks Integration back into relating: How things can work as someone comes home from treatment.by moyrapodcast on March 5, 2022 at 12:02 pm
Amy Guerrero, trauma-informed recovery coach, conscious sober person, and founder of Thrive In Recovery, has a coaching practice developed for sober people to heal their trauma, find success, and create healthy relationships with people, money, and themselves. Amy has learned how to go from admitting she was powerless to living powerfully, and believes it is her ultimate act of service to share her journey with others. I’m reaching out about having her on your show. Amy knows from experience that getting sober is only the first step in a journey towards healing. She was pretending to be happy, thinking that the next meeting or the next therapy session would “fix” her and allow her to finally feel comfortable in her own skin, but it just wasn’t happening. Amy got busy educating herself, training and working with people in somatic experiencing, attachment theory, and other trauma-informed modalities, and relating it to living a conscious sober lifestyle. She turned her healing into her life’s work and now uses that education to coach people to feel more courage, hope and confidence in their sober life. Blessed to be lead to Amy who is helping me today and our family. as our daughter has returned home from a treatment center. I learned a lot. - Days Like This! What do we do when the joy does return? How do we feel? Reflections on the last 2 months!by moyrapodcast on October 29, 2021 at 5:29 pm
I love the song Days like this by Van Morrison. I never did pay attention to the words until it was mentioned as a possible mother-son dance at a wedding. Then I listened. The words are below and I reference them in this episode. And reflect on all that I have been doing the last 2 months, since my 58th bday. There has been lots of struggle and joy-less days. And yet I found myself....in these 4 mentioned occasions , finding a feeling a JOY inside of me. And I knew there were days like these...and yet wondered if they would happen. I hope you listen and enjoy...and hear that when we want the joy...its up to us!!! And it's possible. Days like this: Van Morrison. When it's not always raining there'll be days like this When there's no one complaining there'll be days like this When everything falls into place like the flick of a switch Well my mama told me there'll be days like this When you don't need to worry there'll be days like this When no one's in a hurry there'll be days like this When you don't get betrayed by that old Judas kiss Oh my mama told me there'll be days like this When you don't need an answer there'll be days like this When you don't meet a chancer there'll be days like this When all the parts of the puzzle start to look like they fit it Then I must remember there'll be days like this There'll be days like this When everyone is up front and they're not playing tricks When you don't have no freeloaders out to get their kicks When it's nobody's business the way that you want to live I just have to remember there'll be days like this When no one steps on my dreams there'll be days like this When people understand what I mean there'll be days like this When you ring out the changes of how everything is Well my mama told me there'll be days like this ----------------------------- The Journey to Joy Journal is available now. A couple past episodes I mentioned here. What ballroom dance has taught me. - The Complex Nature of Grief: Kim MacNeill shares about losing her son to cancer and how the hole remainsby moyrapodcast on August 6, 2021 at 12:22 pm
My dear friend Kim MacNeill joins me today for a candid conversation about grief. As fellow hockey moms we share the love of hockey as our boys have played the sport. 8 years ago she lost her son Ross to a brain tumor. Today the conversation is candid and raw and real. You will learn why mentioning the name of someone who has died to that loved on can be a gift. I reference the podcast interview I did with with Claudia about grief. You will find it here. Grief: A way of showing how much you have loved. Kim has gone on to found the R33M Foundation: the Ross L MacNeill Foundation to end pediatric brain cancer. Her work to bring awareness and raise funds for research is tireless. We will not forget Ross and the impact he had on the lives he touched. If you are grieving, find support. There are many who will support you when you ask for her. - We all get by with a little from our friends. Reflections and Gratitude about who has helpedby moyrapodcast on July 2, 2021 at 2:04 pm
That is a an old Beatles song right? We all get by with a little from our friends. Through the struggles of my daughter and her eating disorder and the death of my mom, I have seen the impact that having good friends surrounding you can have on your life. Eating disorders and addictions can cause chaos in your life. And they leave you feeling along and scared and experiencing things you never imagined. During this time I have reached out numerous time to ask for help for me or my daughter. And my Shaklee family of friends has stepped up in a way I never imagined. You will hear those stories today. And I have learned the hard way that is is tough to ask for help, We look at ourselves at weak and incapable if we need help, Yet so many are willing to help if we are just brave enough to ask. Take a listen and share with me your takeaways...and your experiences with your friends and help. And be a good friend today. --------------------- Like this podcast ? Want to support it? - Grieving and Mourning: for a life you wish you had with those who struggle with addictions and eating disorders.by moyrapodcast on May 28, 2021 at 12:04 pm
This time of year is one of celebrations , graduations from high school, college and moving onto college or the next phase of life. When someone is caught up in an eating disorder or addiction, they do lose out on these parts of life. And as a mom I have found myself grieving for a life I wish I had with my daughter., a life I wish she had with her family. It's sad and a reality. I find myself reflecting on this particularly now as my daughter , if she had followed a 'normal 'path to college after high school should have graduated now I talk about the 12 steps, specially #11 , seeking after prayer and meditation and knowing that this path of my daughters is not her will or my will, it's really Gods plan and will. Acceptance is key. Realization that grieving is ok . And what we can do during this time. Have you felt grief like this? Mourning for a life you wish you had with your loved one? Would love to hear about it. Like this podcast ? Want to support it? Buy me a cup of coffee here. https://www.buymeacoffee.com/juggling Give it a 5 start review, subscribe and share . Thank you ! As many of you know, my mother passed away on April 12th after a struggle with Parkinson's and Dementia. She did not suffer long and my whole family was grateful for the time we had to be together to say good by, share memories and support my father as he continues on with his life. I spent much of the week following her passing to think of how I could honor her at her service. I was encouraged by my husband Tom to speak and I am glad that he did. Although my relationship with my mother was not always good, in the 57 years of life that she gave me, she did teach me many things. I chose a few of those to speak and share about at her service. I wanted to share those words with you. I am encourage you to see the good even when there may be struggles. - EFT and how it helped Eric Almeida recover from panic attacks and agoraphobia and how he is helping others todayby moyrapodcast on March 19, 2021 at 12:13 pm
Eric Almeida an Emotional Healing Expert and podcaster joins me today to talk about how he learned about EFT. Panic attacks started to take over at his work place and gratefully a colleague introduced him to this method of healing. EFT or Emotional freedom technique is a form of working through your emotions in a unique way. You may have heard about it as tapping. You will learn a lot in this episode about emotions. It's important work that Eric does. EFT is a proven technique that gently and permanently releases emotional pain, self-limiting beliefs and negative thoughts. EFT involves tapping on 10 different pressure points using your own hands and can often eliminate emotional pain as quickly as one session. This technique is much faster than traditional talk therapy alone. It is a vessel to help others heal. It targets the meridian points that are part of the Chinese medicine. Tapping helps to calm the flight , fight or freeze response to emotions or memories. You will learn how this powerful technique works and can be truly life changing. Big or little T trauma, anxiety and memories that we all go through in life, in recovery can be helped through this modality. Eric offered me a free session and we talk through that experience as well. I know you will enjoy this episode. More about Eric: The jarring experience of a panic attack reconnected him with a therapist who specialized in EFT. Many months of emotional healing later, Eric recovered from the panic attack and began to embrace his true calling. The EFT work not only healed his wounds but reignited his passion and drive to help others. Eric embraced the gift that the panic attack gave him and aimed his efforts towards becoming an EFT practitioner. He obtained his EFT practitioner certification through EFT International. His continued goal is to guide people so that they can connect with their true calling in life. And as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, he recognizes the importance of ensuring those in his community have a safe and caring healer at their disposal. *****Special offer for podcast listeners: Book a session with Eric today and receive a discount today by entering the code Juggling. Today on wellness Wednesday I have the pleasure to sit down and talk with Mark Ramirez, a man I have met through my work with the Shaklee Corporation. You will be inspired by Mark's love of life and running. After an accident that left him burned over much of his body, he started to run to stay active, in shape and healthy. That has lead to a life of running , marathons as well as having the privilege of 'test marketing' to an extent the Shaklee sports nutrition products as they were being developed. We talk mindset, life, the commitment to quality that Shaklee takes each day, why he was given his own parking space at Shaklee and how he humbly says he is a nobody who became somebody because of Shaklee. You will love our conversation as much as I did. If you are curious about Shaklee products for yourself, check out my site here when you can view and purchase products. Curious about the heritage of Shaklee and the involvement with the Olympians , visit the athletes site. ---------------------------------------- Like this podcast ? - My first Ballroom Dance Competition experience: Red light stories, Inner Critic and Mistakesby moyrapodcast on February 19, 2021 at 12:27 pm
I have loved my experiences in ballroom dance lessons since August 2020. I had the privilege of entering a regional competition a couple weeks ago and had a wonderful time. So many things came up for me that day as well as the days leading up to the competition day. I wonder if you can relate that the things I share. The way we do one thing is the way we do everything. As I have shared before, it's not all the steps that I am learning for the waltz or tango or Foxtrot, it's what i am learning about myself, my life, the way I show up in life, business and all that. And these experiences have brought up my fears and my reflections on my inner child, that little girl that years ago just wanted to be seen for who she was , the uniqueness and creative spirit that lived inside her. What are your red light stories? Are you telling yourself stories that are keeping you held back in life? What are you stopping yourself from doing and experiencing? I so appreciate all your support and love that you have given me on social and with calls and texts. I look forward to many more wonderful dance experiences. What are you doing to challenge yourself? What stories are you telling yourself? Are you making mistakes and yet learning and moving forward? ------------------------------- Like this podcast ? Give it a 5 start review, subscribe and share . - Unraveled: A Tale of Addiction, Recovery, Redemption and Faith. Laura and Tom Boldtby moyrapodcast on February 12, 2021 at 12:46 pm
Today I sit down with with Laura and Tom Boldt, a mother and son who share authentically about their at times ,unbelievable story of life, addiction and how faith played a huge part in their recovery. They put their stories into a book called Unraveled and it is worth the read if you are someone who has recovered or had a son or daughter who has been in the throws of addictions. They each share their own unique perspective and how their lives and roles of mother and son intertwined and have lead them to a place a redemption, love and respect. Unraveled is a tale of chaos and near-death experiences that share personal and private information and the intense challenges and grueling work it takes to get and remain sober. It’s a unique story of a mother and son’s journey ending with on-your-knees epiphanies that lead both Laura and Tom to ask for help. This tandem narrative is a compelling testimony of courage and honesty that—with edgy and surprising humor—charts a family’s slow climb out of the abyss of pain into the full power of faith, redemption, and healing. Many of you listeners will undoubtedly hear themselves in these stories. Listening to Tom and Laura gave me a perspective and respect for their relationship during these years and so brought home many points that I have wrestled with myself during my own journey with my daughter. One of them namely that only when the person addicted is ready to make the changes and do the hard work will the recovery happen. And the belief that addictions are the work of the devil, not the loving God that many of us know. Laura and Tommy’s purpose is to help others come away with an abiding sense of hope for their own recovery and family. I am grateful they shared today and I know you will be as well. Please share this episode with others as there are SO many that need to hear this today. - Ann Andrews: Beauty is something we feel and experience.Real talk about body image and body loathing.by moyrapodcast on February 5, 2021 at 12:03 pm
Today I am stepping on the dance floor as I participate in my first ballroom dance competition. I thought it only fitting to share this episode with Ann as well have a real talk about body image, body loathing and how we as women feel about ourselves. In in 20+ years working with women 1 on 1 , Clothing Designer and Professional Image coach, my guest Ann Andrews noticed a troubling pattern, She became acutely aware that most women she worked with felt uncomfortable, in some way with the way they looked. Because this mirrored her own journey, Ann took a deep dive into the word Beauty, unpacking the question: Why is it that so many women feel badly about our appearance? I mention the documentary Embrace , a documentary from 2016 . Embrace follows body image activist Taryn Brumfitt's crusade as she explores the global issue of body loathing, inspiring us to change the way we feel about ourselves and think about our bodies. Now that she's on the other side of this question, Ann speaks on this topic hoping to change the conversion and the consciousness around Beauty. She is the first to note that the negative feelings women carry ARE NOT OUR FAULT and has found a way to help us unplug from impossible cultural standards, see ourselves in a new way and discover HOW to Show Up in a manner that brings more Confidence, Authenticity and Beauty in our lives. Ann wholeheartedly believes that Beauty is essential to our wellbeing and is far more than something we see. She has us consider that Beauty is something we feel, something we experience, And when we are not alignment with authentic self-expression, our self image suffer adversely affecting our confidence, credibility and success. Eli Bremer is simply amazing. As a modern pentathlete, he fences, swims, rides a horse, runs, and shoots all in a single day’s competition. He’s also the captain of the Shaklee Pure Performance Team. For Eli, it’s about setting goals and having something to work toward. “Waking up every morning, knowing that you’re going to represent your country is pretty motivating,” he says.
